At our Yoga shala we teach traditional yoga methods with experienced teachers. We have a dedicated Mysore program that runs 6 days a week. Mysore style is a traditional method of teaching the Ashtanga yoga system that originates from Mysore in India.
It is a self-practice class where the student works at their own pace under the guidance of a teacher. All students are taught the same system and deepen their understanding through regular practice.

Traditional YOGA CLASSES, 7 DAYS A WEEK.
The Ashtanga sequence is commited to memory posture by posture with the introduction of new postures when the student is ready. The student arrives to practice and works through the postures they have learned, without being led by the teacher. The teacher will watch the practice, assisting and adjusting as necessary. The teacher then introduces new postures to the student when the student is ready. At a Mysore class, all levels practice in the same room. A complete beginner can practice on the mat next to a person with a 25 year practice.

The method is still taught to this day in Mysore, India at the KPJAY Institute by Sharath Jois and his mother Saraswathi Jois. Ashtanga Yoga Essex is committed to teaching the Ashtanga method in a safe and comfortable way that will benefit the practitioner for life.
